Stumps and tortillions are tools
made out of rolled paper. Use them
to burnish colored pencils, graphite,
charcoal, pastel and other materials
on paper. Both work dry and with
white spirit.
What's the
difference between stumps and
tortillions? Stumps are rolled more
compact, and so they are harder
than tortillions. Tortillions are
hollow.
Both can be
sharpened with a scalpel, knife, a
sandpaper block or a manual
sharpener.
